The Story of RED Woodworks

RED Woodworks is named for the three people who matter most to me: Rebecca, my daughter, Emily, my wife, and Don — me. Every piece that leaves my shop carries a little bit of that name, and the same care I'd want for my own family's home.

My love for woodworking started in 8th grade shop class, but it took on new meaning during my time in the Navy. I served from 2000 to 2004, including deployments around 9/11, and there's a particular kind of homesickness that comes with being far away during a time like that. You learn what "home" actually feels like by missing it — not just the people, but the warmth of a house that's lived-in and loved. That feeling stuck with me.

After the Navy, I spent years building a career in IT — meaningful work, but entirely digital. Eventually I found myself craving something I could actually hold in my hands again: a table you can run your fingers across, a piece of furniture that will still be standing long after the trends that inspired it have faded. Woodworking became my way of building that feeling of home for other families, the same way I'd longed for it myself.

That's what RED Woodworks is built on. Solid hardwoods, real joinery, and pieces made to be handed down — not replaced. Every project that comes through my shop in Medina, Ohio gets the same care I'd give something built for my own dining room.
